How to remove the TikTok watermark from a saved video

Saved your own TikTok and got the moving logo and @username with it? Check for a clean copy first, then how to remove the overlay in your browser, what you get back, and what it cannot do.

UPDATED 5 MIN READ

First, check for a clean copy

When you save a video from TikTok, the download carries TikTok’s logo and the creator’s @username, and that overlay moves during the clip. If the video is yours, the quickest fix is often not removing anything: find the copy you posted from.

The clip you filmed, or the export from your editor, never had the overlay on it. TikTok adds the overlay when a post is saved from the app, not to the file you uploaded. If that original is still in your camera roll or project folder, use it: real pixels beat reconstructed ones every time.

You also do not need to remove anything to post the same video on TikTok again. Upload your original. The steps below are for when the saved, watermarked download is the only copy you have, usually because you want to post it on Instagram, YouTube Shorts or elsewhere.

Why the TikTok mark is awkward

ONE FIXED BOX~21,000 px inventedFOLLOWED PER FRAME~680 px per frame
Left: one box big enough for everywhere the badge goes — the model has to invent all of it. Right: the badge is found again on each frame, so only the badge is filled.

A watermark that stays in one corner can be masked once and filled the same way in every frame. TikTok’s does not stay put: it changes position during the clip and can jump to another part of the frame. Covering every place it visits with one big box would ask the fill to invent a far larger area than the mark itself, and that looks smeared.

So the tool follows it instead. You box the mark once, where it first appears, and it is located again on every frame. The tracker compares the mark’s edges rather than its brightness, because the overlay is semi-transparent and the background shows through it. When the mark jumps, the tool searches the whole frame and moves the mask there, but only when the match is strong. If it is not sure, it keeps the last position rather than guess.

Removing it, step by step

  1. 01
Trim the end screen firstSaved TikToks can end with a branded screen. Trim it off in any editor before you start, since it is a whole frame of logo rather than an overlay.
  2. 02
Open the TikTok watermark removerDrop the clip in. It is decoded in this browser tab: nothing is uploaded, and no account or TikTok login is involved.
  3. 03
Box the overlay where it first appearsThe tool often finds the mark for you and shows it ready to adjust. Leave a little margin around the letters, and leave “The mark moves — follow it” switched on.
  4. 04
Clean, check, downloadScrub to the part where the mark moves and the background is busiest. If it holds up there, it holds up everywhere. Then download.

The free version cleans the first 10 seconds, at up to 720p, so you can see the result on your own footage. Most TikToks are longer than that; the tool tells you before it starts when a clip runs past the free limit.

What you get back

An MP4 file, the same shape as your clip, with the sound kept. The video itself is re-encoded, because every frame has to be decoded, patched and written back, so it is not bit-identical to what you put in, even outside the patched area. Keep your original.

Nothing of ours is added: no badge, no end card. And only the area under the mask is replaced; the rest of each frame is your video.

What it cannot do

Filling in a watermark does not recover what was behind it. That information is not in the file. The area is reconstructed from the pixels around it, frame by frame. Over sky, walls, clothing and ordinary background that works well. Over a face, small on-screen text, or a sharp edge, it is visibly a guess.

Because each frame is filled on its own, a patch over a busy, moving background can shimmer slightly from frame to frame. On a steady shot you will not notice it. And it does not fetch a clean copy from a TikTok link: it works on the file you already have.

If the overlay sits over a face or text for most of the clip, expect a visible patch. That is a limit of reconstruction in general, not of one particular tool.

Your videos only

The overlay on a TikTok download is the creator’s username. On a video you made, that is your own credit, and removing it to post the clip somewhere else is ordinary cross-posting. On someone else’s video it is their credit. Removing it to repost their work is against TikTok’s terms, and it is what our acceptable use policy rules out. Where the legal line sits is covered in is it legal to remove a watermark?

Try it

IN SHORT

  • If you still have the original you posted, use it: there is nothing to remove.
  • TikTok’s overlay moves, so box it once and let the tool follow it.
  • The free version cleans the first 10 seconds, in your browser, with nothing uploaded.
  • The result is an MP4 with your sound; keep your original, since the video is re-encoded.
