Sora has been shut down
OpenAI set a two-stage shutdown: the Sora app and website closed on 26 April 2026, and the API followed on 24 September 2026. OpenAI told users to download their videos from the Sora library before the cutoff. If you did, those files are what this page is for. Nothing here can recover clips you did not save.

The API is gone too
OpenAI’s deprecations page lists the Videos API and the Sora 2 models as removed from the API on 24 September 2026, with no recommended replacement. Apps that were built on it have stopped generating Sora video as well.

Moving on to another generator
If you are switching generators, the badges are simpler than Sora’s. Veo and Kling both hold a still badge in the corner, which one box covers for the whole clip, and Gemini puts a small sparkle on its images. Each page covers whether a setting or a paid plan gets you a clean file in the first place.
What this is for, and what it leaves alone
Visible badges on output you generated yourself, and nothing more. Invisible watermarks such as SynthID live in the pixels and stay there. C2PA and other metadata stay in your original file, which is never modified. When you publish the result, label it as AI-generated: most platforms ask you to, and a clean frame is not a reason to pass AI video off as real footage. Removing the Sora watermark, step by step

Before you start
Is Sora still running?
No. OpenAI announced on 24 March 2026 that it was discontinuing Sora. The Sora app and website closed on 26 April 2026, and the Sora API ended on 24 September 2026. This page is for clips you already saved. For a generator that is still running, see Veo, Kling or Gemini.
Does the free tier cover a whole Sora clip?
The free tier cleans the first 10 seconds of any video at up to 720p, and 3 images a day, with no account. A clip longer or sharper than that still gets a free 10-second preview, so you can judge the result on your own footage first. The whole clip, up to 10 minutes and 4K, is $3.99 for 24 hours or $12 once for Pro. Both are one-time payments.
Will the result look untouched?
On steady shots and simple backgrounds, generally yes. Sora 2 drifts its badge around the frame, so we follow it: you mark it once and it is located again on every frame, meaning only the badge is filled rather than the whole area it travels through. When it jumps to another part of the frame, the whole frame is searched and the mask moves with it, but only on a strong match, so a busy background cannot pull the fill somewhere wrong. Where the badge crosses a face or fine detail you will still see softness, and because each frame is filled independently, fast camera movement can leave a faint shimmer.
What happens to the provenance data?
We set out to remove the visible badge and nothing else. But the clip you download is newly encoded, so the C2PA provenance record inside Sora’s original file is not carried over to it. Keep your original if you need that record; we never modify it. The AI watermark checker will show you what that record says.
How long does a clip take?
Roughly real time on a recent laptop with WebGPU, and slower on older machines that fall back to CPU. If it had to run on the CPU, the tool says so when it finishes.
